Bearcats put up a fight against Golden Tigers

September 20, 2013

It was a different looking team when the Antlers Bearcats varsity football squad hosted the Talihina Golden Tigers on Friday, September 13, 2013. Fresh off their win against Valliant the week before, the Bearcats came on strong with Drew McKnight (#2) catching a 37-yd pass thrown by QB Zach Speer (#5) and taking it into the end zone with 2 minutes left in the first quarter. Tanner Brown (#12) kicked the extra point and Bearcats took the lead 7 to 0. The Bearcats were able to hold the Tigers defensively and then, with about four minutes left in the half, Tanner Brown scooted into the end zone from about the 10 yard line, but his kick was no good, making the score 13-0 at half time with 5 1st downs, 7/8 passes for 95 yards, and 37 rushing yards. But, Talihina came back strong in the second half and returned the opening kick off for 6 points. Then, they completed the two point conversion making the score 13 to 8 within the first two minutes. The teams struggled back and forth, but ultimately Talihina scored three more times. The final score was Antlers 13 to Talihina 32.

On offense, QB Zach Speer completed 12 out of 16 passes for 162 passing yards. Leading rushers were Lucas Austin (#34) with 8 carries for 25 yards, Zach Speer (#5) with 12 carries for 11 yards and Nick Evans (#7) with 6 carries for 8 yards. On defense, Tanner Brown (#12) and Lucas Austin (#34) each had 12 tackles, while Zach Speer and Ryan Davis (#78) had 8 each, followed by Tristan Brown (#56) with 7.
