BenJo Hotubbee

BenJo Hotubbee,80, of Wilburton, passed from this life on September 20, 2012. Ben was born in Buffalo Valley on August 17, 1932, the son of the late Allen and Ruthie (Hokit) Hotubbee of Yanish. On August 20, 1955 he married Marvelleen Bankston. After loosing his first wife, Ben found love again with Jan Whitten of Wilburton. They married in October 1996 in Antlers. God called Ben from the oil fields of West Texas into the ministry in 1971. After being ordained, Ben moved his family to Otter Creek. Four years later he followed God’s call to Mt. Park, then to Indiahoma and finally to Antlers in 1979. After 15 years in Antlers, Ben retired, but in less than a few weeks he was preaching at Buffalo Valley and the Moyers Baptist Church. Ben has been a roughneck, golden glove boxer and coached little league. He also served on the local and state boards of the Oklahoma Baptist Retirement Community and the Pushmataha County Hospital Board of Directors. Few people know Ben had a doctorate in Theology. Ben didn’t want to be called Dr. Hotubbee, but everyone did know he was a wonderful, caring man of God who always had a kind word and warm smile for anyone he came in contact with. Ben leaves behind his wife, Jan of the home; sisters, Hazel Ridgeway of Tulsa and Ailene Sheppard of McAlister; sons, Joe and wife Cindy Hotubbee of Antlers, and Jon and wife Gala Hotubbee of Clayton; daughter Marla and husband Joe Hill of Clayton; stepsons, Mike and wife Maxine Roe of Savanna, David and wife Dianna Roe of Sand Springs; stepdaughter Jana and husband Mike Wallace of Antlers; grandchildren, Khristy Hotubbee, Misty Joyner, Jessica Blancett, Aaron Hall, Nicole and Natalie Gilliam, Tyler, Maranda and Carissa Hill, Eva Burgess, Melissa Roe, Shalon Roe, Michael Roe, Courtney Renallo, Colton Wallace, Anthony and Justin Roe, Trista Forrester, Caitlyn Korb; Great-great grandchildren, Alex Burgess, SheaLynn, Magen and Dusty Joyner, Trinity Hill, Claria Blancett, Brela Roe, Bridgett, Blair and Britley Burgess, Joey, Justus and Ryan Renallo, Cooper Porter, Brayden Forrester, Brantley Korb, Rarker Roe and Lillie Kate Roe. Ben was preceded in death by his parents Allen and Ruthie Hotubbee, his first wife Marvelleen Hotubbee, one sister, Sybil Reed, one brother, Delbert Hotubbee and granddaughter Lacey Lee Hotubbee. The memorial services were held at the First Baptist Church in Antlers on September 24, 2012 with Reverend Bud Vinson and Reverend Aaron Reed officiating.
