The Honobia Bigfoot Organization received an Oklahoma Arts Council Grant in the amount of $500.00. These funds will help defray the cost of the art show and entertainment for this years festival to be held September 30 and October 1, 2011, at Christ 40 acres in Honobia, Oklahoma.
The Honobia Bigfoot Festival has something for everyone such as an Art Show, Arts & Crafts, Food Booths, Live Entertainment, Games for the Children, 5 K Run, Pictures taken with Bigfoot, Bigfoot Story Telling and a Bigfoot Conference.
Honobia is located in the heart of the Kiamichi Mountains about 20 miles South of Talihina , Oklahoma . In a beautiful valley with Little River and Honobia Creek running through it. Â This area is located in a remote portion of Southeast Oklahoma .Â A large percentage of the area population is Choctaw Indian.Â Because of the longevity of the Choctaw Indian individuals who call the Honobia region home, many stories and beliefs about the existence of Bigfoot are relayed to their children and grand children.Â There are so many stories and legends to be shared at the festivalâ€™s Bigfoot Story Telling Hosted by Glen Hyder, Friday Night from 6 to 8 pm, bring your lawn chairs.Â
Several of the Arts and Craft Booths are dedicated to paintings and crafts that depict the existence of this elusive creature.Â The Arts and Craft Booths and Food Booths will be open Friday September 30th from 8 am until 9 pm. and on Saturday October 1st from 8 am until 6 pm.Â The Art Show will be open both days, with a variety of beautiful art work to view with some of the work for sale.Â The Art will be judged with prizes awarded.
Various musical artist will be performing during the entire festival. There will be the Honobia Head Cuttinâ€™ Contest again this year. A new event was added last year, the Bigfoot Idol Contest, this contest will consist of different age groups so come out and show the crowd your talent.
ATV Excursions are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, bring your own 4 wheeler and learn the type of nesting and habitations areas that are attractive to Bigfoot. These excursions will be conducted by Calvin Winsor, Local Resident who is familiar with the Bigfoot Terrain.
The Bigfoot Conference, will have speakers that include Dr. Melba Ketchum,-Sasquatch DNA Process, Thom Cantrall-Author of Ghost of Ruby Ridge, Farlan Huff,-Bigfoot Investigations, Scott R. Nelson-Bigfoot Language, Arla Williams,-Cherokee Grandmother, Darryl Williams,-Honobia Area History, Robert Swain,--Laughsquath, Charles Branson-Retired Forest Ranger, Dave Paulides-Author â€śTribal Bigfootâ€ť and Troy Hudson-Local Area Bigfoot Populations.
The festival and conference is a as family affair, with RV and Tent camping on the grounds.Â Persons of all ages, races and those interested in the various art components offered at the festival or encouraged to attend.Â Every effort will be made to make all aspects of the event accessible to those with disabilities.
