By Billy Latham The Pushmataha County Sportsman Club held a team bass tournament on August 28, at McGee Creek Lake. Twenty-one anglers competed in the tournament. Once again, fishing conditions proved to be quite difficult as one-third of the contestants were unable to catch a legal fish to weigh in. Also, none of the anglers were able to catch a limit of bass. Winning the tournament was Billy Latham. Billy had a stringer weight of 6.72 pounds. He also had the big bass of the tournament with a fish weighing 1.93 pounds. The team of Jett Gardner and Jake Nabors finished in second place. Their stringer weight was 6.23 pounds. Jon Tucker and Terry Thurman took third place honors with a stringer weight of 6.16 pounds.
The club's next bass tournament will be held on September 11. It will also be the last regular season tournament of the year. The tournament is scheduled to be held on Hugo Lake at Frazier Point Ramp. This, however, may have to be changed due to low water levels in Hugo Lake. Water levels at this time are low enough that putting a bass boat in at Frazier Point ramp is next to impossible. This will be discussed at the club's regular monthly meeting on September 9. Meetings are held at the Wildlife Heritage Center and Museum at 7:30 p.m. Anglers planning to fish in the September 11 tournament are urged to attend so they will be aware of any changes that may have to be made due to the low water levels in the lake. |
