City of Antlers gains new tax

November 14, 2013

The City of Antlers held a Special Election on Tuesday. The purpose of this election was for residents of Antlers to decide whether or not to pass a 1/2 cent tax increase that would be earmarked to repair the streets in Antlers.

The residents of Antlers voted to passed this tax with in one of the smallest turnouts in a long time. Only 93 people took the time to stop at the polls, 63 of them voted yes, and 30 people voted against the new tax.

The proposed 1/2 cent tax will last for 5 years, unless re-approved by voters in 2018. The tax is estimated to generate approximately $800,000.00 that will be used to repair and upgrade our city streets.

With this new tax approved, our total sales tax will increase to 10%, which is the same as the City of Hugo.

This will not be official until Friday, Nov. 15.
