City hires contractor to pickup brush

January 10, 2014

The City of Antlers has officially hired a contractor to continue clearing limbs for residents in Antlers.

On Monday, January 6th at the regularly scheduled City Council meeting, the City of Antlers hired Brown’s Tree Service to continue working to clear the City of limbs that fell during the ice storm that hit the area in early December 2013.

The contractors began pick up on Wednesday, January 8th and continue for approximately 4-5 days. The contractors will only pick up debris and brush that is in the city right-a-way by the street.

Residents are asked that if their haven’t already piled their debris for pickup to please place limbs neatly by the pavement, being careful not to place piles by fire hydrants or water meters. Also residents are asked to be aware and try not to block the visual sight of drivers on corners, driveways, crosswalks and so forth.

According to Antlers City Manager Joel Taylor this will be the last time the contractors will take away the brush. After Brown’s Tree Service has completed their contract, residents will then become responsible for removing the remainder of their brush, debris and limbs.

“Unfortunately this will be the final time the contractors remove brush. The city simply can’t afford to do it again,” said Taylor.
