We have all heard and been touched by the story of the heavily armed man that walked into Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut on Friday, December 14th, and opened fire. Within minutes, 26 people were dead at the school, 20 of them children and 6 adults.
If that wasn’t enough, when the town tried to hold church services for the vitamins on Sunday, December 16, a threat was called into the church. Connecticut State Police officers search outside St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church after the threat prompted authorities to evacuate the building. Investigators found nothing to substantiate the reported threat, a police official said, declining to provide additional details.
With the death toll at 26, the Newtown shooting is the second-deadliest school shooting in U.S. history, behind only the 2007 shooting at Virginia Tech that left 32 people dead.
People in every community around the nation have shown their support and love, as well as spoke about the issues that face this country. Pushmataha County residents spoke out as well.
Brian: A sick sick man just took away so many precious lives! Sickens me that someone would do this to anybody much less a bunch of Children! Prayers for all families involved in this. A special place in Hell for the sick man than did this!
Eric: I don't understand, if you want to be a killer why go to a school to kill harmless children? Prayers go out to everyone in Newtown. And just a little FYI to all my non gun lovers; if the principal would've had a gun this might not have happened! Guns don't kill people, people kill people. And guns can save people!
Shelly: I have watched about this shooting for the last hour and I have cried. Lord help these families deal with this tragedy. I don't even want to imagine how they feel. Going home empty handed & those little bedrooms empty...just an unspeakable crime!
Becky: This whole horrible situation really makes you wonder about your own kids safety in school. That is somewhere you are supposed to send them for an education AND pick them back up. It really makes you not want to send my kids to school anymore.
Donna: This isn’t intended to hurt anyone during this tragic time, but I do believe teachers and educators should be trained and permitted gun carries. How many could have been saved in that classroom if the teacher was armed?
Richard: Prayers going out to all of the teachers, staff, police, EMS and everyone else who was involved at the elementary school.
Carol: My child came into my room and said, “Mom, I can’t get it out of my head. I know we don’t know the people that got hurt but I’m sad. It’s like a string connects all of our hearts, so they are like family.” My heart was shattered.
Brandon: I’m disgusted right now. Who in their right mind thinks that it’s ok to kill children? I’m honestly sickened by this.
One thing has been concluded from speaking to residents of Pushmataha County, as a community our prayers and thoughts are with the victims and their families during this most difficult time and in the months to come.
