July 19, 2012

Roy Earl Jackson 1930-2012

The recent passing of a Pushmataha County resident has deeply impacted many in the community and throughout the county. Roy Earl Jackson was a very active citizen who loved this county, country and the people in it.

Roy served his community by being a member of the Antlers City Council for 24 years (since 1988) and he also served as the Mayor of Antlers for 19 years. Not only was he a civil servant, he was also a small business owner in our community. He was the owner of Jackson Motors, a staple business in Antlers for many years.

Roy was born on December 13, 1930 in Antlers to Roy and Nora Mae Labor Jackson. He served his country in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict.

Roy and his first wife, Billie Jo Dellinger Jackson, were blessed with two daughters, Tammy Jackson-Janoe and Karla Jackson-Elliot. His first wife, Billie, preceded him in death.

Roy married his second wife, Berniece Thomas, on August 19, 2000 at the Antlers First Baptist Church. Upon marrying Berniece, he became a stepfather to two more girls, Wanda Leslie and Janice Pipe, who he loved and treated as his own.

Roy was a member of several organizations including the Antlers Sportsman's Club, the Gideons, the Antlers Roundup Club and served as a board member for Little Dixie and KEDDO. Roy was also an active church member. He attended the Antlers First Baptist Church and served as a Deacon.

In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a bird hunter and roper. Roy also enjoyed singing in the choir and being a part of the church community. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends, especially playing with his grandchildren.

Roy passed from this life on July 8, 2012 in Paris, Texas at the age of 81. Funeral services were held the following Tuesday at the Antlers First Baptist Church.

He will be greatly missed by his friends, family and the community.
