Deer Festival to kickoff Friday

October 3, 2012

The 11th Annual Deer Festival and Outdoor Show is once again upon us. As cooling temperatures and shorter days have many residents anticipating deer season, individuals and organizations scramble to put the finishing touches on their projects as attendees prepare for hours of family fun and events to keep their family entertained. The event is an annual mainstay for sportsman and individuals who enjoy the outdoors since 2002.

The Pride of Antlers Marching Band will usher in the official start of the festival on Friday morning at 8:30 a.m., with musical entertainment slated throughout the two day event. Some of the acts include: The Danny Baker Band, The Calvin Smith Band, Just 3 More, Muddy Boggy and many more.

In addition to the musical entertainment, the contests are also a popular part of this festival. One of the most anticipated contests is the Chili Cook-off. Cook-off groups will meet on Saturday morning and begin concocting their masterpieces, that will be available for public tasting at the conclusion of the contest.

Another popular staple of the festivities is the Cutest Kids in Camo contest. This will also take place on Saturday as the contestants take the stage at 5:00 p.m.

Drawings will be held at the conclusion of the festival, Saturday at 7:00 p.m. This year instead of the traditional Cabin drawing, donators to the cause will be entered to win a brand new ATV just in time for deer season.

The festival promises plenty to see and do for the two days that it encompasses. For a complete look at what is scheduled to take place, including more contests and musical entertainment, see our Deer Festival and Outdoor Guide which can be found inside this edition of The Antlers American.
