Don Jay Simpson

Don Jay Simpson was born September 27, 1959 in Victoria, TX, to Don M. and Dalaha Doretha (Hensley) Simpson. He passed from this life April 4, 2012 in Dallas, TX, at the age of 52. Don had been a resident of the community since 1972. He married Jennie Lynn Savage on December 13, 1980 in Finley and together they raised one son, Justin. Don was an Electrical Lineman and worked for Dallas Power & Light and T.U. Electric in Dallas, TX for 10 years and for AEP/PSO in Antlers for the past eighteen years. He was a member of the IBEW Local 1002. Don volunteered many hours of his life to various youth organizations in the community. He helped coach Little League Football in Antlers and was an instructor for the Pushmataha County 4-H Shooting Sports Club, where he instructed shotgun, archery, air rifle and air pistol. He served as a Committee Member for the Boy Scouts of America, Troop #384 in Antlers. One of the things Don most enjoyed was hunting. Some of his fondest elk hunting memories were with family members and friends as they searched for “the big one” in Colorado. Don’s greatest love, outside of his family and friends, was his place near Finley. He spent endless hours working the land, feeding and tending to his cattle and just enjoying God’s creations. Don was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Finley Baptist Church. Don was preceded in death by his father: Don M. Simpson. He is survived by his wife: Jennie of the home; son: Justin Lee Savage Simpson of Finley, and girlfriend Katy Leachman of Moore; mother & step-father: Dalaha Simpson Garrison & Hank of Finley; sister: Donya Simpson of Arlington, TX; step-brothers: John Garrison & wife Laureen of Denver, CO., Bob Garrison & wife Dawn of Argyle, TX., Dan Garrison & wife Julie of Tucson, AZ; father & mother-in-law: J.L. & Mary Jo Savage of Finley; brothers-in-law: John Savage & wife Crystal of Snow, and Bill Savage & wife Andrea of Wilburton; nephews and niece: Chad Rodger Savage, Gavin Ray Savage, Dakota Reid Savage, John Robert Savage, Dalton Reese Savage, & Rachel Elizabeth Savage; step-nephews and nieces: Logan, Jacklyn, Wade, Wyatt, Gabrielle, Sidney, & Brody Garrison, Tyler Oakes; beloved cousins: Monte Randolph, Micheal Simpson, Cheryl Simpson-Michael, Tonja Hensley-Wright, & Trine Hensley-Jenson; as well as many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Antlers First Baptist Church with Reverend Aaron Reed officiating. Musicial selections included: “Beulah Land”~ Performed by Andrea Savage; “Ain’t No Grave”~ Performed by Janice Sorwoodson; and “Lead Me Home”. Pallbearers included: Chad Rodger Savage, Gavin Ray Savage, Dakota Reid Savage, John Robert Savage, Dalton Reese Savage, Rachel Elizabeth Savage, Todd Joslin, & Jackie Garrison. Honorary Pallbearers were: Rick Ginn, Bobby Freeman, Kelly Smith, Robbie Corbett, Frank Roberts, Terry Yates, Jerry Wofford, Tony Allen, Gary Parker, Pat O’Neal, Lanny Nash, Tommy Lewis, Ryan Oakes, Cliff Owens, Raymond Humphreys, Tim Collins, B.J. Magby, & Ray Vasconcellos. Interment followed at Finley Cemetery in Finley with Reverend Phillip Savage officiating. Family and friends may send online condolences at
