On Wednesday, August 17, 2011 on SH93 about 6 miles north of Hugo in Choctaw County a collision occurred at about 10:30 p.m. involving a 34 year-old male from Rattan.

A 2005 Chevy Pickup being drove by Daniel R. Martin, of Rattan, was southbound on SH93 when it stopped behind another vehicle at a construction traffic light which controlled the open lane of SH93. When the light changed to green the Chevy passed another vehicle in a no passing zone, drove through the cones marking the construction area and struck an unmarked construction trailer loaded with I-beams.

The driver left the scene, leaving the passenger, Timothy Paul Young, a 41 year-old male from Rattan, pinned in the vehicle for approximately 45 minutes until he was freed by the Hugo Fire Department.

The driver of the vehicle, according to police reports, had the odor of alcohol on his person and his injuries are unknown as he left the scene. The passenger was transported by Eagle-Med to Plano Medical Center in Plano, TX., with head, arm and leg injuries but is listed in stable condition.

Seat belts were equipped in the vehicle but not in use by either occupant. The cause of the collision is under investigation.

This collision was investigated by Trooper Daryl Wofford, #E740, of the Choctaw County Detachment.
