Drug testing required of athletes and drivers

June 7, 2012

Antlers Public School

This school year will be continuing with the student drug testing policy for all extracurricular activities as well as drivers’ education students and any student that is issued a parking permit. Each student involved in an extracurricular activity, drivers’ education or that is issued a parking permit will be required to take a drug test. Each student involved in these activities will be charged a $25 activity fee that will be due when physicals or drug test are conducted or on the first day of school for drivers’ education students and student drivers that are not athletes. Students involved in extracurricular activities that do not require a physical examination and student drivers are encouraged to attend the day of physicals to take their drug test.

Athletic physicals will be conducted at Antlers High School on July 17, 2012 for all male athletes between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and July 18, 2012 for all female athletes between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The doctors will take a lunch break between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. each day.

A parent signature is required before the physical exam and drug screening test can be conducted. Parents may attend during physicals or sign the physical form and drug screening form prior to the required date. A copy of the student drug testing policy and physical examination forms can be found on the Antlers Public School website under the tab marked enrollment packets. These forms are also available at the Antlers High School office and the Obuch Middle School office. These may be picked up during regular business hours.

All students in grades 6-12 during the 2012-2013 school year that will be participating in any athletics (including cheerleading) must have a physical on file in the principal’s office and a drug screening test before participating in any extracurricular activity. The physical examination must be documented on the approved form of the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association to be valid.
