On Wednesday, June 22, 2011 the Antlers Farmers Market celebrated their official opening with a ribbon cutting. The Farmers Market is located on Main Street in Antlers across from The Convenience Center gas station.
The Farmers Market was brought back to life by the Antlers Farmers Market Association earlier this spring and have been planning and working on the Market ever since. The Farmers Market is open from April 1st until October 31 on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Local growers can feel free to bring their produce and small livestock out but there are a few rules and regulations. All produce must be 100% Oklahoma grown and must have been grown within 100 miles of Antlers. There is also a fee of 10% of your sales (but not more than $10) per day to set up.
At the Farmers Market you will find fresh produce, locally harvested honey, herbs, small livestock, farm fresh eggs and so much more. The Farmers market proudly accepts Choctaw and Chickasaw voutures, the Senior Citizens nutrition program and SNAP. When paying for produce make sure you bring cash or checks as they can not complete transactions with credit or debit cards.
Leftover produce gets donated to local community centers and the food bank. Their goal is to make the Farmers Market a local place for residents to get quality goods and have a meeting place to socialize with other residents. Also the OSU Extension Services did a great deal in bringing back the market.
If you would like to participate by selling your goods come one out and they will help you set up. For questions or if you would like more information please call Shawnda at 298-3174.View more articles in:
