The City of Antlers has received a Hazard Mitigation Grant in the amount of $23,775.00 from the Oklahoma Department of Emergancy Management for the purchase of 4 storm sirens. This will make a total of 6 sirens that Antlers will have to warn the public inside the City Limits of an approaching Tornado or other Severe Weather.
The total cost of the siren upgrade was 31,7000. Public Service of Oklahoma (PSO) donated the labor and equipment for the installation of the sirens.
The City replaced the old siren down town, that has been used for many years, with one of the new sirens. They have also put up three other new sirens in new locations across town. With the 6 sirens in place, all citizens in the City should be able to hear the warning sirens better from their homes.
The installation was done on November 4, 2011 with a cooperative effort from the Public Service Company of Oklahoma, Carlile Electric, City of Antlers Public Works Crews and the Antlers Fire & EMS.
