The heat is on

The dog days have arrived.

As the month of June closed with a surge in temperatures, the trend continued into July, with Pushmataha County checking in above 100 degrees for the first time on Friday, after several days of near 100-degree highs.

Friday’s temperature of 103 degrees was the hottest day of the year, so far, according to the Oklahoma Mesonet. Saturday, Antlers reported a high temperature of 101 degrees, with a high on Sunday of Sunday of 97 degrees.

Antlers also reported 3.17 inches of rainfall for the month of July through Monday, with measurable rainfall recorded seven out of 22 days.
In contrast, over the first three weeks of July 2011, Antlers reported .29 inches of rainfall and 20 days with high temperatures exceeding 100 degrees.

Conditions have been hotter and drier in Clayton, with eight days of 100 degree high temperatures reported, breaking the triple digit barrier on July 3 with a high temperature of 100 degrees. During the first three weeks of the month, Clayton reported 1.24 inches of rainfall.

In July of last year, Clayton received 2.01 inches of rainfall and reported high temperatures at or above 100 degrees every day, with an overall high temperature of 107 degrees, reported on July 24, 2011.

Cloudy has reported 3.78 inches of rainfall, so far, for the month of July, compared with .56 inches reported in July of last year. Cloudy reached triple digit high temperatures for the first time on July 6, with a high temperature of 101. Temperatures reached 102 degrees on Friday and Saturday.

Cloudy recorded 24 days of triple digit high temperatures during July 2011, with an overall high temperature for the month of 107.
