On Saturday, May 5, members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club held a team bass tournament on Hugo Lake. Twenty-seven anglers competed in the tournament. The lake level was near normal and the weather was cooperating with clear to party cloudy skies, warm temperatures and breezy conditions. These conditions allowed a few anglers to put together some nice stringers of bass.
Billy Latham won the team event with a six fish limit of bass. His stringer weighed 14.43 pounds. Billy also had the big bass of the tournament with a bass weighing 3.95 pounds. Second place was taken by Billy and Kaleb Hensley. They had a stringer weight of 11.33 pounds. James Ranallo finished out the top three sports with his stringer weight of 11.27 pounds.
The club’s next scheduled event is a free youth fishing tournament. It is scheduled for Saturday, May 12, at McGee Creek Lake at the Buster Hights landing. Fishing times will be from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. A free cookout for the kids will take place after the weigh-in and after prizes have been awarded.
The tournament is free of charge to any youth age sixteen and under. The young anglers may fish with artificial lures or live bait. They may fish from the lake shore or from a boat. Any legal species of fish may be caught and weighed in at the tournament. All state game laws must be observed. There is a small chance the tournament might be rescheduled due to a conflict with the fireman’s bass tournament taking place at the same time and location. A final decision will be made at the club’s regular meeting on Thursday, May 10. The club meets at the Wildlife Heritage Center and Museum at 7:30 p.m.View more articles in:
