Infant transported to Tulsa after vehicle leaves roadway

A two month old child and her mother were taken by helicopter to hospitals in Tulsa, after the mother lost control of her vehicle 1.5 miles north of Clayton on August 12, 2012.

Courtney D. Butler, a 16 year old female of Clayton, was traveling west on a county road just north of Clayton in a 1997 Isuzu Rodeo with her daughter Payton J. Simpson, when Butler ran off the roadway to the right, over corrected and ran of the roadway to the left. After leaving the road, they traveled about 80 yards into a wooded area.

Butler was transported by air ambulance from the scene to St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa where she was listed in stable condition. Butlers injuries included head, arm and trunk internal injuries.

Simpson was treated for head injuries from Indian Hospital in Talihina and then transferred to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. The child’s condition is unknown.

Officers report that seat belts were equipped in the vehicle but not being used by the driver. A rear-facing child restraint system was in use. They report the cause of the collision was the driver was driving too fast but the condition of the driver appeared to be normal.

This collision was investigated by Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Tommy Allen, #304 of the Pushmataha County Detachment.
