James “Cubby” Hayden Owens

James “Cubby” Hayden Owens was born February 20, 1939 in Bentley to Berry Bud and Chrystal “Crick” Neomi (Martin) Owens. He passed from this life March 17, 2011 in Centerpoint at the age of 72. James, often called Cubby, married Dee Daniels on August 22, 1960 in Madill. He was a lifetime cowboy who enjoyed the outdoors, bird and coon hunting and playing dominoes. He loved his horses and dogs and spending time with his family and friends. James was preceded in death by his daughter: Della Marie Owens; and parents: Crick and Bud Owens. He is survived by his wife: Dee of the home; two sons: Larry Owens & wife Margie of Centerpoint and Cliffton Owens & wife Stephanie of Farris; one daughter: Nina Hunter of Centerpoint; grandchildren: Joey Rowland & wife Brandi of Fort Hood, TX, Leah Owens, Emily Owens, Hannah Owens and Jesse Owens all of Centerpoint; Brandon Yates of AR, Eric Hunt of Lane, Trentin Hunter, Stormy Hunter and Gunner Hunter all of McAlester, and Charlie Brooks Owens of Farris; one great grandson: Logan Roland of Crystal; three brothers: Don “Chick” Owens & wife Loretta of Centerpoint, Lloyd Owens & wife Kathey of Antlers, and Noah Junior (BB) Owens of Farris; along with numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2011 at the Farris Assembly of God with Pastor Keith Peach officiating. Musical selections included: “Wild Wood Flowers,” “Peace In the Valley,” “I Would Not Be Denied,” “High on the Hilltop” and “Long Black Train.” Pallbearers included: Jerry Hill, Brock Hopson, Donnie Baker, Gabe Winters, Coy McCarty, W. K. Bell, Phillip Cannon, Ricky Hunt, Gene Doshier and Vernon Eastridge. Honorary pallbearers included: Don “Chick” Owens, Lloyd Owens, Junior Owens, Billy Wayne James, Carey Recto, C.T. Hurd, Jimmy McCarty, Hal Brame , Hank Griffin, Jerry Haberman and many more. Interment followed at the Butler Cemetery in Lane. Family and friends may send online condolences at
