James Lewis Lamar

James Lewis Lamar, 74, of Jumbo passed from this life on March 20, 2011 at the Paris Regional Medical Center in Paris, TX.  He was born on January 11, 1937 to the late Curtis Lamar and Jonnie Crook Lamar in Woodville. James married Priscilla Henderson on July 17, 1958 in Hugo. James served in the United States Navy for 20 years before retiring as a chief. He then earned his bachelor degree and taught school in Beeville, TX.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Antlers where he served as deacon for several years.  James enjoyed crafting woodwork out of cedar. James was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Norma Sue and Naomi June Lamar and brother; Larry Dale Lamar.  He is survived by his wife Priscilla Lamar of Jumbo; children: James Lewis Lamar Jr. and wife Carol of Bryan, TX, Kimberly Whaley and husband Ken from Houston, TX; grandchildren: Joy Awe and husband Michael stationed in Germany, Alicia Jones and husband Marshall of Austin, TX, and Amanda Lamar, Waco, TX; sister: Susan Rice and husband Bruce of Calera and also numerous loved nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at 2:00 pm at the Kingston Cemetery in Kingston with Rev. Gene Hale and Rev. Aaron Reed officiating. Memorials may be sent to Annie Armstrong Mission Offering at the First Baptist Church Antlers at 208 NE B Street, Antlers, 74523  or a church of your choice.
