JoAnn Loretta Sowell

JoAnn Loretta Sowell was born March 9, 1929 in Seminole to Levi Mandrell and Ora Bell (Hale) Mandrell. She passed from this life June 2, 2011 in Antlers at the age of 82. JoAnn married Thomas Sowell December 1, 1965 in Humble, TX., and together they raised seven children. JoAnn was a member of the Moyers Quilting Club “The MOPS”, Meals on Wheels and the Election Board. She enjoyed gardening, canning, working in her flower beds, fishing, reading, writing, working in VBS and spending time with her family and friends. JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband: Thomas Franklin “Tom” Sowell; one grandson: David Leverett; parents: Levi & Ora Bell Mandrell; and two brothers: Donald Mandrell and Buddy Mandrell. She is survived by four sons: Dalton “Red” Erwin of Moyers, Ed Sowell & wife Vicki of Channelview, TX, Tommy Sowell & wife Sharon of Porter, TX, and Ray Sowell & wife Cathy of Dayton, TX; three daughters: Dorothy Eddy of Moyers, Priscilla Roy of Bryan, TX, and Trudy Roberts & husband Les of Crowder; 17 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; one brother: Leroy Mandrell of Jonesboro, AR; three sisters: Levene Jackson of Wenatchee, WA, Katherine McCullar of Paragould, AR, and Dorothy Lutrell of Pocahontas, AR; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at the Moyers Baptist Church with Pastor Brett Miller officiating. Musical selections included: “Sweet By and By,” “Lilies of the Valley,” “I Can Only Imagine” and “Angel Band.” Pallbearers included the grandsons of JoAnn Sowell.
