John Walker

John Walker was born November 26, 1935 in Antlers to Raymond Splawn and Jewel (Walker) Brewer. He passed from this life November 30, 2011 in Antlers at the age of 76. John married Charlene Turner on February 24, 1958 in Boswell. Later he joined the Oklahoma National Guard and then worked in the steel industry until his retirement. John enjoyed fishing, gardening, and riding around in the mountains. John also was a collector of many things but mostly: coins, guns and classic cars. John was preceded in death by his wife: Charlene Walker; his parents: Jewel Brewer & Raymond Splawn; brother: David Splawn; aunt: Faye Rea. He is survived by a special friend: Joyce Abney of the home; his children: Judy Maynard of Atoka, Janet VanPatten of Whitesboro, TX., Tracy Talbot of Farmers Branch, TX. and John Walker of Sawyer; one brother: George Splawn of Mesquite, TX.; two sisters: Melba Billingsly of Wilson, and Jean Hill of Bloomington, IL; grandchildren: Clint Maynard of Whitesboro, TX., Jeremi Maynard of Alvin, TX., Char'lee Cooper of Sherman, TX., Nicholas & Ashley VanPatten of Whitesboro, TX., Matthew & Bryce Talbot of Farmers Branch, TX., Kayla & Bryden Walker of Sawyer and Justin Neubert of Richardson, TX.; great grandchildren: Hayden Maynard, Sydnee Coffey, Sydnye & Kellye VanPatten, Jaxson & Jayden Talbot as well as many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the Round up Cowboy Church with Jonathon Hooker officiating. Musical selections included: “Go Rest High on that Mountain,” “Farewell Party,” “Old Violin” and “Amazing Grace.” Pallbearers were: Clint Maynard, Jeremi Maynard, Nicholas VanPatten, Scott Talbo, Bryce Talbot and Charley Davis with honorary pallbearers being D.J. Talbot, Lee Cooper and Troy Splawn. Intermentfollowed at the Restland Cemetery in Boswell. Family and friends may send online condolences at www.millscoffey.com.
