On Saturday, May 26, members of the Pushmataha County Junior Bassmasters and Conservation Club competed in the first state qualifying bass tournament of the 2012 season. The tournament was held on Hugo Lake with takeoff being at the Frazier Creek ramp. Fishing time was from safe light until 12:00 noon.
With the tournament being held on Memorial Day weekend and it being the first weekend school was out, only three members were able to fish. The club will fish four qualifying tournaments in 2012 and the weight from those four tournaments will be totaled at the end of the year to see who brings home the coveted angler of the year award. Participation in the tournaments also allows each angler to fish in the 2013 Oklahoma Youth BASS State Tournament.
Anglers Chelsi Thomas and Jordan Haddox were competing in the 15-18 year old group and Jake Nabors was in the 11-14 age group.
Haddox was able to catch three fish totaling 5.37 lbs to bring home the first place prize in that group. Thomas brought home the second place prize with one bass weighing 1.810 lbs. Thomas did win the big bass prize for the day with her 1.80 lbs large mouth.
Nabors brought home the prize for first place and big bass in the younger age group with a bass weighing 1.79 lbs.
The next club tournament will be held on June 30 on Pine Creek Lake. Fishing times and partners will be decided at the next club meeting which will be held on Thursday, June 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Wildlife Center in Antlers.View more articles in:
