STILLWATER, Okla. – April is Financial Literacy Month. To observe this, the Oklahoma Jump$tart Coalition is sponsoring Jump$tart Your Money Week April 23-29.

Why not take the time during this week to give your finances the boost they may need?

Eileen St. Pierre, Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension personal finance specialist, said Jump$tart Your Money Week is a public awareness initiative intended for building financial knowledge so one can deal more effectively and confidently with money.

“During this week, workshops, programs and seminars will take place all across Oklahoma for participants to come and learn more about improving financial literacy,” St. Pierre said. “The Jump$tart Coalition’s website is This site has information about classes and events that are taking place. Every area in the state is encouraged to participate. Most events are free and offer balanced financial education.”

The Oklahoma Jump$tart Coalition involves both private organizations and governmental agencies at all levels, as well as OSU Cooperative Extension. The Coalition is working toward making a positive difference in the future of Oklahoma families by helping youth and adults improve their financial well-being.

“The Oklahoma Jump$tart Coalition serves as a venue to share best practices for financial education and assists organizations by partnering to best utilize their resources,” St. Pierre said. “With collaboration, the Coalition is able to facilitate information sharing and serve as a clearinghouse for activities and resources related to Oklahoma’s financial education.”

The Oklahoma Jump$tart Coalition started in 2004. It is part of a national effort to educate and empower youth and adults with the information and resources necessary to make informed financial decisions.
