Kenneth Rodney Smith

Kenneth Rodney Smith, fondly known as Grandpa, was born January 27, 1924, in Paris, TX, the son of Walker Alexander and Maggie Ella (Bagley) Smith. He passed from this life on Friday, January 18, 2013, in Durant, at the age of 88. He married Evelyn Juanita McKee on December 22, 1947, in Paris, TX. Kenneth was a cattle rancher all of his life and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Soper. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. Kenneth loved to bird hunt especially quail and loved spending a lot of time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Leonard Smith, Edward Smith, and Delbert Smith; and one sister, Joy Helton. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Evelyn Juanita Smith of the home; two sons, Kenneth R."Ron" Smith Jr. and wife, Pam of Richardson, TX, Donald R. "Don" Smith and wife, Mary Lou of Canton, TX; one sister, Melba Little-Cheatum of Leonard, TX; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. The family requests that donations be made in his memory to the Soper First Baptist Church building fund at: Soper First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 68, Soper, OK 74759. The family will receive friends on Tuesday before the service at the Church, from 11:00-12:00 noon. Funeral services for Kenneth Rodney Smith will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at 12:00 noon in Hugo’s First Baptist Church. Pastor Rick Westbrook will be officiating with Pastor Mike Meeks assisting. Burial will be following in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
