Library presented $25,000 to make a difference

June 28, 2012

On Wednesday, June 20, 2012 supporters, volunteers and local officials gathered together at the Antlers Public Library to help Director Patti Lehman celebrate receiving a very large check, in size and amount, from State Farm®.

State Farm® was pleased to announce that Antler’s public library was chosen to receive a $25,000 grant to provide shelves and books for the newly expanded facility. The local nonprofit was one of 3,000 Cause submissions State Farm received through Cause An Effect, a population-sourced philanthropic initiative that relies on nonprofit organizations to create solutions to community issues identified by Facebook users.

State Farm officials credited Friend of the Library Deanne Taylor for leading the charge and coordinating the successful effort to win a grant in the national contest.

The State Farm Youth Advisory Board reviewed the 3,000 Cause submissions and selected the top 100 finalists. State Farm then identified and paired nonprofit with each Cause; the affiliated nonprofit of the top 40 Causes will each receive a $25,000 grant to create and execute a plan to address the Cause.

Antlers Public Library Director Patti Lehman said, “We were overjoyed to be selected as a top 100 finalist, and even more so by the overwhelming amount of support received from the Antlers community. Many took time to vote every day for three weeks to support our Cause, and for that we are extremely grateful.”

From April 27 through May 17, the Facebook community was encouraged to visit the Cause An Effect app and vote for their favorite Cause. The top 40 vote getting causes would all receive a $25,000 grant from State Farm.

“The considerable amount of votes that the Antlers Library received shows an important level of commitment and interest within the Antlers community to address this issue,” said local State Farm Agent Carl McAdams. “We look forward to seeing an improved and more effective work here because of the community’s dedication, and this help from our Cause An Effect grant.”
