Long will not seek reelection

February 12, 2014

County Commissioner of District #3, Jimmy Long, has stated that he will not seek reelection when his team expires at the end of this year. Health issues and the stress of the job are contributing factors in his decision.
“After walking in their shoes,” stated Long, “I have a lot of respect for all the past commissioners.
Long is in the seventy year of his two year service and has accomplished quite a lot during this time. He sought and obtained new source of revenue to fund the many projects that the north end of the county has needed, including replacing over 40 bridges.
During his final year in office, Long will be focusing on completing several projects, including the Nolia Loop.
The Nolia Loop project, located near Nashoba, began in 2013, The 1.5 miles from Nashoba to S.H. 144. The construction area will extend approximately four miles south and cross the little river to improve drainage and smooth out some of the hilly terrain. It will be a total resurfacing project, including asphalt pavement, new asphalt drives and culverts for the residents. Funding is a part of the County Improvements for Roads and Bridges (CRIB) fund. A total of @2.28 million is allocated for this project, according to Leidos Engineering in Oklahoma City.
Long also has several other projects he has decided to finish before his term is up. They include: The Hansford Road Project in Albion, Fish Farm Road near Tuskahoma, and a income survey by the federal government is being conducted to determine eligibility for funding to replace Tuskahoma streets.
“I’ve tried to do a good job for the people in my district,” said Long “and I’ve found that you can’t please everyone. In fact, your lucky if you can please anyone. But I’ve had two good terms and I want to thank everyone who supported and encouraged me.”
