In a sort of last minute surprise, the Lt. Governor of Oklahoma, Todd Lamb, stopped at the Depot in Antlers for a meeting on his way through to Valliant. A small group of residents were waiting for him when he and his bodyguard arrived at 9:30 a.m. to discuss economic development in rural Oklahoma.
While in Antlers, Lamb discussed what he would like to see happen in Oklahoma, as far as economic growth. As words of inspiration from a man that bleeds orange (that’s right he is a tried and true OSU fan) he stated that economic growth it is kind of like Oklahoma College football. We don’t have to beat everyone, we just have to beat Texas.”
In addition to proving that he has a sense of humor, he also showed that he has a great way of thinking. So many businesses fail because they think they have to build bigger and better products then any other company in that business. Instead Lamb is suggesting that we set a more direct goal that doesn’t seem so unreasonable. Lamb also said that when businesses start looking at locations in rural Oklahoma he will make sure we are on the list if it is a good fit with they type of business.
When Lamb opened the floor for discussion, it really wasn’t any surprise that the conversation quickly went from economic development to water rights. This is a hot buttoned issue for many individuals who vacation and reside in Southeastern Oklahoma. And Lamb once again made an excellent point.
Lt. Governor Lamb pointed out that he didn’t want to see the water go anywhere either but in the end it is more than likely be taken away from us and given to other states by the “black robes” as he called them. Many residents at the meeting agreed. Lamb said that first things first, he wants to see the comprehensive water study and go from there. He also stated that the most important thing in this matter is that our area didn’t get taken advantage and that we had the water we needed.
We would like to Thank the Lt. Governor for stopping and taking the time to visit with us here in Antlers and invite him back anytime. To keep up with what Lt. Governor Todd Lamb is doing you can follow him on Facebook, Twitter or can check out his online office at http://www.ok.gov/ltgovernor/.
