Murder charges filed

November 22, 2011

On November 11, 2011 the Pushmataha County Sheriff Jimmy Duncan requested Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations (OSBI) assistance into the investigation of the death of Garland Cogburn, 77, when they found him deceased in his residence. Missing from Cogburn’s residence was his 1999 Buick Regal.

On November 12, 2011, OSBI Agent Steven Carter was contacted by Sara Parsons and she informed that Cogburn’s vehicle had been at her residence since November 8, 2011, when her husband Robert Parsons, 48, arrived at the residence in the vehicle.

On November 14, 2011, Agent Carter interviewed Parsons in the Jack C. Montgomery VA Hospital in Muskogee where Parsons admitted that he was at Cogburn’s residence the morning of November 7, 2011. Parsons also admitted to striking Cogburn in the head with a hatchet, causing his death. Parsons also wrote himself a check from Cogburn’s checking account and took Cogburn’s vehicle, as well as a revolver.

Parsons left the residence and fled to San Antonio, TX. Prior to fleeing from the state, he cashed the check he had wrote to himself in Atoka and bought clothing and a backpack in Ardmore.

He was my uncle. He had a daughter. He had brothers sisters. He was from a large family, many of whom he now resides with in Heaven. The Lord above will give justice. God tells us to love our neighbors as ourselves, and to forgive and not to harbor resentment, but this is a tough one. This is horrible, awful.

thank you GOD
