Officers of the Antlers Police Department were assaulted when conducting a welfare check over the weekend at the Sportsmans Inn in Antlers.
Officer Stewart Stanfield, with the assistance of Pushmataha County Sheriff Deputy Russell Bailey, was dispatched to the Sportsmans Inn to check on the welfare of Douglas Flatt. When they arrived and opened the door to the room Flatt was residing in, a white make was hiding behind the door.
The male quickly stepped out from behind the door and moved towards the officers. The male was identified as Eddie Minton, a 27 year old white male of Antlers. Minton was wanted for outstanding Pushmataha County Warrant CF-2013-68.
Officers advised Minton that he was under arrest for said warrant and Minton steppe out past the doorway, at which time Officer Stanfield grabbed his left arm. Minton jerked his arm free, took off running, striking Deputy Russell and Officer Stanfield multiple times. Officer Stanfield ended up with a fractured bone in his left hand as a result to the confrontation.
Upon arrest, a single marijuana roach and a small bag of meth (both testing positive with a field test kit) were found in Minton’s left pants pocket.
Contact was later made with Flatt, who stated that Minton took his pickup without permission to the motel room. Flatt pressed charges.
Minton has previously been convicted, in 2007, with Possession of a controlled dangerous substance, felony, and was sentenced to 2 years in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections and, in 2011, with Possession of a controlled dangerous substance, felony, and was sentenced to 3 years in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.
Minton is currently facing charges of: Aggravated Assault and Battery upon a Peace Officer (felony); Assault and Battery on a police officer (felony); Possession of a controlled dangerous substance (felony); Unauthorized use of a vehicle (felony); Possession of a controlled dangerous substance (misdemeanor); and Resisting arrest (misdemeanor).
