Passport to the Future holds 2011 Art Camp

August 10, 2011

On their first day of camp, Brizz, Shea, Jessica, Bonnie, Meski & Autumn show off their cameras that they used when they went on their first every Photo Safari with instructed Michaela Long-Correia of Dallas, TX.

During the week of July 26th – 29th the Passport to the Future Mentoring Program hosted Art Camp 2011.  The mentoring staff of Pushmataha & Choctaw County choses 5 mentees from each county and invited them to come and learn about drawing, sculpting, painting, photography & scrapbooking.  We were amazed at the gift they all had.

We had special guest that taught the art and worked with the mentees on life skills of following instructions.  Michaela Long-Correia from Dallas, T.X., came and spent the whole week with us.  She is an educator and loves children.  She really enjoyed watching them discover the gift of art that they all seemed to have.  Our other guest was Randll Pruitt.  He came and taught the mentees about drawing and about sculpting clay.  They all made a sculpture of a dog and some others made flowers and extra things.  They also were able to follow him in drawing a apple and a horse.  It is extremely rare to have all of that talent in one building here in Antlers, Oklahoma.  It was wonderful.

The mentees were invited back once a month for Art Day.  At these we will see how they have followed the life skill of keeping up with their things.  They all received a tote with all the art supplies we used during the week.

“We are very grateful for Passport to the Future.  We don’t get to do things like this and might have never got to try some of this stuff.  We really appreciate all that you all have done for us.  Thank you Michaela & Randll for helping us to learn all this.  It is so relaxing to think about something else and get your mind off of your troubles.” said Bonnie Wadkins.

On Wednesday, August 10th, the mentees returned to Antlers Little Dixie Office for “A Day of Art” with Deborah Hadley from Hugo, to do watercolors.
