District Solo and Ensemble Contest was a great success this past weekend for several members of “The Pride of Antlers” Bearcat Band.

At District Solo and Ensemble, the students prepare pieces of music to perform either by themselves or on small groups for judges. The kids then receive a rating from Superior, a “1”, down to a “5” being the worst.

This past Saturday the Bearcats went to Durant and received one “3”, five “Excellent” or “2”s, and twelve “Superior” or “1”s. As well as competing for a rating at this contest, several students performed from memory which qualifies them to go on to State Contest to be held in Stillwater in late April.

“I am thrilled that all of the kids did so well”, said Mr. Potter, “even more excited that so many signed up for a voluntary contest, really proud of these kids.”

In addition to these kids performing well, several members of The Pride have been busy with Honor Bands already this year. Back in January Travis Perry, Ashley Stillwell, Michael Lampton, and Elizabeth Rowland participated in Four States Honor Band in Texarkana, and later in January three of our students made All-District Band held in Durant: those students where Travis Petty, Ashley Stillwell, and Elizabeth Rowland. Most recently in Oklahoma City three students were part of the Oklahoma Small School All-State Band held at Oklahoma Christian University. Those students were Michael Lampton, Travis Petty, and Ashley Stillwell.

Its been a great start to 2012 for the Bearcat Band and they hope to make it even better this week at District Band Contest in Durant where the Bearcats will attempt to qualify for State Contest in March for the 10th time in the last 13 years.
