The weather could not have been more perfect as the Antlers Bearcats traveled to take on the Panama Razorbacks on their home turf. The Bearcats hoped to boost their 0-2 district standings by beating Panama, with a record of 3-2 overall and 1-1 in district. The boys started off strong, scoring a TD with a run in by #34 Lucas Austin and a 2-point conversion by #5 Zach Speer with 11:05 left in the first quarter. Panama quickly returned the favor, but their 2 point conversion was no good, leaving a score of 8-6 in favor of the Bearcats at the end of the first quarter.
At 9:01 in the second quarter, Zach Speer held on to the ball and managed to break away from the pack, streaking 60 yards to make the second Bearcat touchdown. He then tossed a pass to #12 Tanner Brown adding another 2 points, making the score 16-6, Bearcats. But, a couple of minutes later, Panama came back scoring 6. Bearcats lost on downs and a Razorback made an amazing 95 yard return of the kickoff leaving the score 19-16, Panama. It was fourth down and #12 Brown was in the end zone to receive a pass by #5 Speer when he was slammed into by two Razorbacks. The refs called the penalty against the Bearcats and the stadium was in an uproar. Even Panama fans felt the call was unfair.
The Razorbacks scored twice more in the third quarter and once more in the fourth. The Bearcats were able to get into the end zone one more time with a pass from #12 Brown to #2 Drew McKnight, but Panama stopped #34 Austin's 2 point try. Final score was 40-22, Panama.
