Spirit Parade to celebrate 3rd Grade Bearcats moving on to the Super Bowl

November 8, 2012

The 3rd Grade Antlers Bearcats celebrate their win over Wewoka in the Little League playoffs.

Following a win two weeks ago against Stigler that sent them to the playoffs, the 3rd Grade Antlers Bearcats squared off against the Wewoka Tigers last Saturday evening in Wewoka. The Bearcats received an outpouring of support from cheerleaders, parents, and fans who had traveled the 100 miles to see them play.

The Bearcats had previously played the Tigers early in the regular season, suffering a loss. But time has a way of changing things. After working hard and honing their skills all season long, the Bearcats returned, ready for a rematch….ready to win.

Within the first quarter, #1 Conner Hammons scored the first touchdown for the Bearcats. The Tigers answered with a touchdown of their own, bringing the score to 6-6, and then 6-8 after they achieved a 2 point conversion. The two teams battled steadily for some time until late in the half when #35 Garrett Bailey ran about 35 yds for the second Bearcat touchdown, ending the half 12-8.

The second half opened with a formidable Bearcat defense. Two Tiger fumbles were recovered by Bearcats #42 Brayton Hallman, and #35 Garrett Bailey. A third touchdown was made by #5 Bearcat Andrew Arnold, extending the Bearcat lead to 18-8. Another touchdown by #35 Garrett Bailey followed by a 2 point conversion from #3 Hunter May resulted in a Bearcat win with a final score of 26-14, and thunderous applause and cheers from fans.

Now the Bearcats will face undefeated Eufala this Saturday, November 10th, in Hartshorne for the Little League Superbowl title.

Congratulations, Bearcats! You’ve played hard and we’re so proud of you!

There will be a Spirit Parade for this amazing team, put on by the Antlers Youth Cheer Team on Saturday morning, November 10th, starting at 8:15 a.m. at the Antlers High School. The parade will start at the High School and end at Bearcat Stadium. All are welcome and encouraged to come out and support our student athletes!
