Superintendent’s Corner

December 1, 2011

By Cary Ammons

Antlers Public Schools, along with many other school districts, are preparing for the last few weeks of the first semester. With Thanksgiving Break over, students are being prepared for holiday festivities, practicing Christmas musicals and songs, playing basketball, and studying for semester tests.

With Christmas Break now not far away, there are many exciting opportunities for everyone to come see what is happening at Antlers Public Schools. For example, the basketball season has opened for all grades, enthusiasm is running high for all the programs, Band will be playing a Holiday Recital soon, and teachers are focusing in on the last few objectives for the first semester before semester tests.

On a separate not, I would like to take a minute to say thanks for all the help in putting the new names on our band hall and gymnasium during the Thanksgiving break. I encourage everyone to come by and see it for yourself, Stanley Rains Memorial Band Hall, and Antlers Public Schools - Bobby Harris- Gymnasium. Thanks to Mr. Virden, Mr. Barriger, Mr. Toon, Mr. Turner and Mr. Tucker for all the hard work.

With December now here, I am sure Mrs. Caraway, our county Treasurer, has sent out Ad Valorem Tax notices to many of you. Antlers Public Schools, like all school districts, budget these monies for operations. School districts would not be able to offer many of the programs without this tax. Antlers Public Schools appreciates our community support and would like to say we are and will provide the best for our students during these economic challenges.
