Superintendent’s Corner: October to be a busy month

October 3, 2012

By: Cary Ammons

The month of October signals many exciting changes. The change in the weather, leaves begin to change into their Fall colors, the Holiday Season is upon us, and schools bear down for the end of the First Nine-Weeks.

Antlers Public Schools will be experiencing many exciting opportunities for students during the month of October. Many of these will be in the form of extracurricular activities such as band contests, academic meets, FFA showings, Football games, and basketball season begins with the start of practice. We will also end our First Nine-Weeks during October, so be sure and encourage your child to stay on top of their grades, by completing homework assignments, reading their books, and being at school every day.

October also marks a very important month for school districts across the state as reports are due to the State Department of Education. The reports are derived from data that is entered into our Student Information System. This data is placed into the system by enrollment forms that are turned into the offices at the beginning of the school year. Our secretaries work very hard entering the student information into our system, called Municipal Accounting Systems. The data must be correct as state aid monies are figured from these numbers.

Antlers Public Schools will be celebrating Homecoming this week with festivities and fun throughout the week. Homecoming ceremonies will begin at 7:00 PM before the game against the Panama Razorbacks. We encourage everyone out to support the Bearcats Friday night.

In closing, the Antlers Deer Festival will be taking place this week. What an awesome time for everyone as many folks from out of town visit this annual event. We encourage those who may be alumni of Antlers or those just passing through, to visit our campuses and grounds and see all the exciting things happening and changing at Antlers Public Schools.
