Teams rain during Bass tournament

August 30, 2012

On Saturday, August 25, members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club competed in a team bass tournament on Sardis Lake. Contestants fished under cloudy skies with light rain and moderate temperatures for most of the day, which was much more enjoyable than the one hundred plus degree temperatures of the last several bass tournaments.

The team of Judd Thomas and Josh Cole took first place honors. They had a six fish limit that weighed 15.75 pounds. Earl Jones finished in second place. Earl also had a six fish limit that weighed 13.82 pounds. Terry Thurman and Jon Tucker came in third with a stringer weight of 13.16 pounds. Jon also had the big bass of the tournament with a fish weighing 5.15 pounds.

The club’s next and last regular season bass tournament is scheduled for September 8, on Hugo Lake. However, due to the extremely low water level in the lake, the tournament may be moved to Sardis Lake. If there is not any significant rainfall to raise the lake level to 402.5 feet or higher, the tournament will be moved. Those planning on fishing the tournament should check the Antlers American for a formal announcement on the week of the tournament.
