Antlers Student Wins VFW District Essay Contest

Kealey Standridge, student at Antlers High School, has officially won the District Essay competition for the VFW’s “Voice of Democracy” Essay contest, for the 3rd year in a row. This essay contest is an annual contest which the VFW (Veterans of Foreign War) puts on as a scholarship program.

“We are as proud of this girl as we can be,” said Mr. Neil Kimberland, member of the VFW. “It is students like her who help us have big hopes for the future.”

Standridge wrote an essay titled, “Does My Generation Have a Roll in America’s Future.” For winning district, Standridge’s essay will go on to compete at the state level where she hopes to bring home the ultimate prize of a $30,000.00 college Scholarship.

“Kealey’s teacher, Mrs. Valerie Gee, has promoted this program since it started.” informed Kimberland. “It is teachers like her who help the youth to know what freedom costs and the privileges our solders have fought for them to have.”
