Tigers celebrate Homecoming

February 10, 2012

Terrell Morgan and Carrie Collins were crowned the 2011-2012 Moyers Basketball Homecoming King and Queen on Thursday, February 2, 2012 during the Tigers homecoming celebration. Also pictured are flower girls Lilly McClain (L), Grace Strandridge (R) and Crown bearer Brady Janoe.

This was a busy week for the Moyers Tigers.  Starting things off for the week’s festivities would be the Ft. Towson Tigers.  The Lady Tigers struggled in the first half, but Sophomore Shelby Clark scored the first basket of the game.  There were highlights by the Ladies, freshman Beck Heath stole the ball and took it down the floor for an easy basket.  Coach must have had a discussion with the Ladies at half, because a much improved team took to the court in the second half.

The Ladies rebounding improved and we secured easy baskets in low post position.  Every member of the team scored and showed great desire and hustle.  Shelby Clark lead the scoring with 9, Kalli Winters with 7, Jessica Payne with 6, Gabby Renteria with 2, Bekka Heath with 2, Tanna Thomas with one, and Carrie Collins with one.    The Tigers would meet the Tigers next.  Ft. Towson would score the first points of the game, but it wouldn’t take our Tigers long to answer with Jr. Jake Dudley’s pull up jumper and Terrell Morgan ripping a three point shot.

This quickly turned into a run and gun game, with Moyers scoring 29 points in the 2nd qtr.  Moyers had the lead 44-20 @ half.  Great pressure defense forced turnovers which our Tigers converted to easy baskets.  Sophomore Caleb Armstrong got hot in the second half and kept things rolling with Moyers securing the victory over them other Tigers 70-35.  Jake Dudley lead the scoring with 24, followed closely by Caleb Armstrong with 22, Jake Mattingly had 11, Sebastian Cowen with 6, Terrell Morgan with 5 and  Zach Brittingham with a pair.

After several days of homecoming fun, the Tiger took on the Bennington Bears to close out the festivities.  The night started with the crowing of King and Queen.  Congratulations to Seniors Carrie Collins and Terrell Morgan.  Now, on to some ball, the Lady Tigers took the court full of fire and played an impressive first half.

The Ladies showed good ball control and passing skills and hustled for every point they received.  Jr. Tanna Thomas found a jump shot to put the first points up for the Ladies in white.  Sr. Carrie Collins, Freshman Jessica Payne and Sophomore Gabby Renteria battled hard the basket for rebounds, while Kalli Winters and Shelby Clark kept the pressure on in defense.  The Ladies fell short of their goal, but play a much improved game.   Next up the boys would take to the court.

Bennington is always a competitive game and the Tigers came out on fire.  Jr. Jake Dudley scored first for the Tigers.  One thing you can say about our boys they play very well together, they look for each other and make selfless plays and that was definitely true of this game.  Jake Dudley connected with Sr. Jake Mattingly under the basket several times for easy layups to put the Tigers in the lead 15-8 in the first.

Great looks and great passes let the Tigers dominate the first half.  Jake Dudley and So.  Caleb Armstrong kept great pressure on and forced several turnovers, which lead to layups and some pretty passing for three point shots.   Sophomore Sebastian Cowen blocked several shots and Sr. Zach Brittingham and So. Colton Shrum battled under the boards for rebounds.   The Tigers kept the pace and as a friend said “rocked the house”.  Districts are coming up on Feb 11th in Whitesboro.  Good Luck to all the Tigers.
