Tigers on to State, History made

The Moyers Tigers are State Bound after defeating the McCurtain Bulldogs 65-55 Saturday night in Kingston. The Tigers claimed the Area Runner Up Trophy after falling to the Red Oak Eagles on Friday night. The Tigers played hard against the Eagles and the score was close through the end of the 3rd quarter. However, the Tigers shooting was cold throughout the game and their efforts fell short with a final score of 53-42.

The Saturday night game was a rematch of the Regional Championship game with the McCurtain Bulldogs.

he game started off fast and furious with the Tigers scoring in transition and the Bulldogs scoring from the 3pt line. At the end of the 1st quarter the Tigers were up 19-15. The 2nd quarter was a repeat of the 1st with both teams trading points each time down the court. At the half, the score was tied up 31-31.

The 2nd half belonged to the Tigers who claimed the lead early in the 3rd quarter and never gave it up. The game did remain close and kept fans from both sides on the edge of their seats. After 3 quarters of play the Tigers led 44-37. The Bulldogs battled to the end with some amazing 3pt. shooting. However, the inside shooting of Brandon Slocum, Jordan Self and Sabastain Cowen and the outside shooting from Jake Dudley and Caleb Armstrong proved to be too much for the Bulldogs.

The Tigers were victorious with a 65-55 win. Final stats for the game were Brandon Slocum-32 pts., 6 rebounds, Jake Dudley-8pts, 7 assists, 3 steals, 6 rebounds, Jordan Self-8pts, 1 assist, 1 steal, 4 rebounds, Caleb Armstrong-9pts, 2 assists, 3 steals, 3 rebounds, Sabastian Cowen-8pts, 2 steals, 7 rebounds.

The Moyers Tigers are now headed to the State Tournament with a 27-3 record. This is the first time in school history that the Tigers have qualified for the State Playoffs. The State Tournament will begin on Thursday, Feb. 28 in Oklahoma City.
