Wanda Darnella Smith

Wanda Darnella Smith was born December 2, 1952, in Lamesa, TX, to Dub & Sissie (Robinson) Hobson. She passed from this life after eight months of fighting cancer, on April 23, 2013, in Antlers, at the age of 60. Darnella attended school and grew up in Lamesa. She married Kent Smith in Lamesa on July 18, 1969, and together, they raised two children. Darnella worked for Junior Gardner at Gardner’s grocery store here in Antlers. Later, she worked as the dispatcher for the Antlers Police Department, which she dearly loved. By all accounts, she was very good at her job. She loved working in her yard and watching the kids play football and softball as well as spending time with her family. Darnella is preceded in death by her husband: Kent Smith in 2005; father: Dub Hobson; mother & father-in-law: Raydon (Buddy) & Orean Smith; sister-in-law: Peggy Price; and brother-in-law: Johnny Smith. Those left to cherish her memory are her son: Dusty Smith of Antlers; daughter: Brandi Godsey & husband Billy of Antlers; her much-loved granddaughter: Tariah Smith of Antlers; mother: Sissie Hobson of Lamesa, TX; one brother: Weldon Hobson & wife Cleta of Lubbock, TX; sister: Beverly Pinkerton & husband Russ of Levelland, TX; sister-in-law: Myrna Smith of Houston, TX; brother-in-law: Calvin Smith & wife Shirley of Antlers; several aunts & uncles; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Darnella will truly be missed. Funeral Services were held at 2:00 PM, Friday, April 26, 2013 at Antlers First Baptist Church with a Letter Written & Read by Tariah Smith, Granddaughter and officiated by Jr. Gardner and Reverend Aaron Reed. Pianist was David Smith with music as “Sissy’s Song” Performed by Brent Frank, “Over You”, & “Forever Love”. Pallbearers included Dusty Smith (Tariah Smith), Brandi Godsey, Billy Godsey, Steve Ebsen, Scott Smith, Wayne Smith, Lee Smith, & Clint Cooley. Interment followed at Darwin Cemetery with the Final Call provided by the Antlers City Police Department.
