Woman critical after collision

An injury collision landed 50 year old Maxine F. Hicks, of Hugo, in critical condition on Saturday, May 5, 2012. The collision occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. on HWY 271 just 6 miles south of Antlers in Pushmataha County.

Hicks, the driver of a 2005 Chevy Equinox, fell asleep at the wheel and ran off the roadway to the left striking an embankment and then a utility pole.

She was transported from the scene by Eagle Med Air Ambulance to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She was listed in critical condition with head, arms, legs and trunk internal and external injuries.

The cause of the collision was listed as sleepy with the condition of the driver being inattentive. Hicks did not have her seat belt in use at the time of the collision but both the front and side airbags deployed.

This collision was investigated by Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Chris Dennis, #223, of the Pushmataha County Detachment.
