Temperatures prove challenging in 24 hour bass tournament

McGee Creek Lake

Twenty-four members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club competed in their annual Noon to Noon Bass Tournament held on July 16 and 17. The tournament was held on McGee Creek Lake and started at 12:00 noon on Saturday and ended at 12:00 noon on Sunday. A weigh-in was held at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night.

After weigh-in, anglers could return to fishing or go home and return at a time of their choosing. Fishing conditions proved to be quite challenging with the temperature reaching above one hundred degrees. Only half of the anglers were able to bring a keeper bass to the weigh-in on either of the days fished.

Finishing in first place was Mike Burrage. Mike had a stringer weight of 13.97 pounds. Josh Cole, with a stringer weight of 11.00 pounds, finished in second place. Billy Hensley came in third with a stringer weight of 9.75 pounds. Kenny Briggs had the big bass on Saturday with a bass weighing 7.52 pounds. Josh Cole had the big bass on Sunday. His bass weighed 1.92 pounds.

The club’s next bass tournament will be held on July 30, at Hugo Lake. Launch site for the tournament will be Frazier Point boat ramp. Fishing times will be from "safe light" until 3:30 p.m.
