The Pushmataha County Junior Bassmasters held their second state qualifying bass fishing tournament on Hugo Lake on Saturday, August 20. The tournament was sponsored by FirstBank of Atoka. FirstBank donated $300.00 to the club to be used for prizes for each angler that competed.
With temperatures forecasted to be around 108 degrees, tournament hours were shortened to start at safe light and end at 1:00 p.m.
In the 15-18 year old group, Dillan Holiman came in first place with four fish that weighed 8.30 lbs and second went to David Atwood with 2.82 lbs. This was David's first time to fish a junior bassmasters tournament. Holiman also caught the big bass for this age group with a 4.19 lb. largemouth.
Finishing first in the 11-14 year-old group was Jordan Haddox with a weight total of 7.97 lbs for 3 fish.
After two tournaments in the 2011 season, Jordan Haddox sits in first place for the 11-14 year old age group with a total yearly weight of 13.20 lbs. No other angler in this group has checked in a keeper bass for the year.
In the 15-18 year old group, Dillan Holiman moved into first place with 8.30 lbs. Now in second place is David Atwood with 2.82 lbs. Jessica Shrader is in third with 2.79 lbs.
The winners of each category will be crowned as Angler of the Year following the completion of the 2011 fishing season. One junior bassmasters tournament remains and will take place on Pine Creek Lake on Saturday, September 24.View more articles in:
