Members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club held their final regular season bass tournament of 2011 on Saturday, September 10. The tournament was held on Hugo Lake. The cooler temperatures seemed to have helped improve fishing conditions as seven anglers brought a six fish limit to the weigh-in.
Winning the tournament was Jon Tucker. Jon had a limit of bass that weighed 15.48 pounds. Billy Hensley finished in second place with a stringer weight of 14.97 pounds. Kenny Briggs took third place honors with a stringer weight of 12.12 pounds. The big bass of the tournament was caught by Dennis Willeford. His bass weighed 4.76 pounds.
The club’s next event will be the Annual Top Ten Tournament, which will be held on Saturday, September 17. This tournament allows the top ten anglers of the year to compete against each other in one final tournament. Those qualifying for the tournament are Ellis Silvey, Billy Hensley, Terry Thurman, Judd Thomas, Earl Jones, Billy Latham, Josh Cole, Mike Burrage, Jon Tucker and Dennis Willeford.
A meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, at the Wildlife Heritage Center and Museum to pay entry fees and vote on the lake to be fished. If any member can not fish, his position will be offered to the next member in line until all ten places have been filled.
With fishing season coming to an end, members will now turn their attention to deer season. The club holds a contest for each of the three deer seasons; archery, primitive firearms and regular gun season. Members must pay their entry fees for the contest before a season begins. Entry fees are $7.00 per season or $20.00 for all three and can be paid at the meeting on September 15, or at Silvey’s Tax Service.View more articles in:
