Coming off of a loss last week at the hands of the Savannah Bulldogs (55 to 29), the Bearcats showed early in the first that they were here to play as they drew first blood. Unfortunately the Bearcats lost Friday's non conference game against the Atoka Wampus Cats by a score of 46-26.
This came as a small surprise as the Bearcats continued to dominate the game, racking up 20 points before the half, but the Wampus Cats showed that they were getting their game pulled back together and scored two touchdowns in the second quarter. Leaving the score at half-time 20 to 14 with the Bearcats on top.
At the start of the second quarter fans could tell things were about to change. The Wampus Cats came out with a renewed spirit and quickly closed the point spread. The Bearcats didn’t give up but it was clear that they were getting tired fast. Quarterback sacks, bobbled snaps, incomplete passes and missed blocking assignments allowed the Wampus Cats to bring the score to 33 to 23 over the Bearcats with only 10:48 left in the game.
The Bearcats showed a glimmer of hope as they made an impressive drive down into the Wampus Cats red zone and looked like they were going to close the spread, but in the end they had to settle for a field goal. The game was far from over and before the final buzzer sounded the Wampus Cats ended up putting another 13 points on the board. Making the final score Atoka 46, Antlers 26.
This week the Bearcats will have another week with home field advantage as they take on the Talihina Golden Tigers. Make sure you come on out and cheer on your Antlers Bearcats and the Pride of Antlers Marching Band.View more articles in:
