The Antlers Bearcats celebrated homecoming last week as they played a conference game at home against the Marietta Indians. The festivities kicked-off with the introductions of the 2011-2012 Homecoming Court. After introductions, Hannah Leyba was crowned the 2011-2012 Antlers High School Homecoming Queen. Hannah was escorted by quarterback, Bryce Martin.
The Bearcats didn’t get the victorious end to their homecoming celebrations as they lost to the Indians with a final score of 37-6. The first quarter started off slow and steady as both teams were not allowing the other to move the ball but with 1 min 33 sec left in the quarter the Indians got the first 2 points with a safety. At the end of the first quarter the Indians had managed to come to a 9-0 lead.
The second quarter saw much of the same. The Bearcats struggled with bobbled punt returns, missed passes and not being able to stop their blocking assignments. At the end of the first half the score was Marietta 16 - Antlers 0.
After the half Marietta started to show that this wasn’t going to be a close game, as the Bearcats struggled to hold on to the ball. The Bearcats did get a touchdown with 8 min 9 sec left in the third and brought the score to 16-6. Marietta wasn’t going to let it be unanswered, and answer it they did. After Indians ran back the Bearcats kickoff for a touchdown and brought the score to 23-6. At the end of the third quarter the score was Indians 30 - Bearcats 6.
The forth quarter looked much like the rest for the Bearcats. Although they showed great potential throughout the game, the dropped, missed and bobbled passes and catches are holding them back. The game ended with a final score of Marietta 37, the Antlers Bearcats 6.
This week the Bearcats are back on the road and will go up against the Kingston Redskins in a conference game. The Bearcats next home game will be against the Tishomingo Indians on Thursday, October 20th.View more articles in:
