On Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. the Antlers Fire Department and the Kiamichi Economic Development District of Oklahoma (KEDDO) a nd the Oklahoma Forestry came together at the Antlers City Hall and developed a Community Wildlife Protection Plan.
The objectives and goals are to set clear priorities for the implementation of wildlife mitigation in the Antlers Fire District that includes recommendation for the community as a while and also for individual homeowners. Some of the goals are to conduct public awareness and education about Fire Wise Landscapes, identification and reduction of areas with an increased level of risk due to excess vegetation or debris, facilitate removal utilizing roll-off dumpsters, chippers/shredder, Chainsaw, etc., improve accessibility, ingress and egress for emergency vehicles for property within limited areas, identify location of hydrants and mains needed to increase accessibility for tanker aircraft at the airport and many other similar items.
On December 1st, 2011 the City of Antlers will recognise “Fire Wise Day” at Pruett’s Food in Antlers. Members plan to meet with the public regarding awareness of being Fire Wise and will be handing out brochures that tell what a Fire Wise Program is all about and how to participate. Attending Fire Wise Day will be representatives from the Fire Department, KEDDO, Oklahoma State Forestry, Representative R.C. Pruett and Oklahoma State Insurance Commissioner John Doak.
