The Moyers Tigers took on Eagletown last Tuesday night at home. First up would be the Lady Tigers. Kalli Winters would score the first points on a great pass from Shelby Geary. The Lady Eagles were quick to retaliate and quickly jumped out on the Ladies 9-4. At half the Ladies found themselves down 31-8. The 3rd qtr was kinder to the Lady Tigers and their rebounding improved with Shelby Geary hitting the boards hard for the team.
The Ladies picked up their hustle, lead by Shelby Clark and Kallii Winters, as this would soon turn into a very aggressive game. Becka Heath and Jessica Payne both contributed on the boards and hustle but in the end the Ladies fell to the Lady Eagles 53-25. Next up was the Tigers. Eagletown got the opening tip but a quick steal let Brandon Slocum score the first two points for the Tigers.
Jake Mattingly got hot at the post position and quickly added 4 more and the Tigers were up 14-6 with 2:55 in the first. The Eagles were not going down that easy and quickly brought the contest back to 16-13 to end the first qtr. Terrell Morgan found his sweet spot and let the net rip with three 3 pointers to open the second qtr. The Eagles thought they shut Terrell down only to be surprised when Kaleb Armstrong hit a three of his own.
The Tigers took the lead into half 38-32. The 3rd qtr was very aggressive and almost seemed like a football game at times, with the Tigers barely keeping the lead. Eagletown had their eye on the upset. 55-53 the Tigers had the lead with 33.3 seconds. The fouls were flowing, but the Eagles picked the wrong guy to foul in Terrell Morgan. Terrell sealed the deal with free throws for the Tiger victory 58-53.
The Tigers would travel to Fort Towson on Thursday to face the other Tigers. The Lady Tigers would take to the court first and would quickly jump out and gain the lead 4-2. Tanna Thomas got things rolling with a steal and quickly fed to Shelby Geary for a layup. This would give the Ladies in black a 6-2 lead in at the end of the first. Fort Towson went on a run and caught up to the Lady Tigers taking the lead 23-14 at half. To start the 3rd off right, Becka Heath drove the basket for 2 with Jessica Payne contributing from the free throw line.
The Lady Tigers never gave up, Shelby Clark and Kalli Winters kept the pressure on defense and Shelby Geary drove the lane to keep the Ladies within striking distance. Shelby Geary hit a buzzer basket to end the game 44-30 in favor of the Fort Towson Lady Tigers. Shelby Geary contributed 19, Becka Heath with 4, Jessica Payne with 3; Shelby Clark added 3 and Kalli Winters topped it off with 1. The next competition would be the Tigers. The Tigers were quick to add points on the board with a Brandon Slocum layup. Then the momentum seemed to slow to a crawl for both teams with the ball changing hands many times. Jake Mattingly snagged a steal which lead to another Brandon layup to put the Tigers back on top 9-8 after first qtr.
The game went in spurts, but at half the Tigers still managed the lead 24-20. The 3rd qtr was faster paced with the Fort Towson Tigers giving the Moyers Tigers a run for their money. Jordan Self stayed on the boards, Jake Dudley and Jake Mattingly worked the post position and Colten Shrum added pressure on defense. Kaleb Armstrong snagged a steal and scored with a layup.
The home team seemed to be building momentum until Brandon hustled another steal with 2:00 minutes left to shut Ft. Towson down. The Moyers Tigers won 51-37. Leading the scoring for the Tigers was Brandon Slocum with 18, Jake Mattingly had 16, and Jake Dudley with 9, Terrell Morgan with 3, Kaleb Armstrong 2, Colten Shrum added a pair and Jordan Self with 1.View more articles in:
