The Moyers Tigers, playing in the Antlers Festival, took on the Rattan Rams last Thursday. This would turn into a very exciting game for all the hometown fans. The Moyers Tigers would wear home team white. Rattan would score first, but Terrell Morgan ripped the net for 3 to give the Tigers the early lead. Tough rebounding under the boards on both sides and pressure defense by the Rams would make for a slow start. At 5:55 in the first the score was tied 5 to 5. With the Rams pressure defense it would take some pretty passes from Jake Dudley for some easy layups from Jake Mattingly and Brandon Slocum. After 1st period score was 15-10 in Moyers favor. The Rams would make a run in the second qtr and the Tigers couldn’t keep possession of the ball.
Turnovers plagued the boys in white. Caleb Armstrong hit a 3 to keep the Tigers in the running with the Rams having the lead 26-23 at half. Jake Dudley hit a pull up jumper to get things rolling in the third and Colten Shrum converted a nice layup on a Dudley pass to keep things close 40-36 at the end of 3. Jake Mattingly got a hot hand in the 4th hitting 2 back to back 3’s and snagged a steal to tie things up at 45-45 with minutes left. The lead would go back and forth a couple times in the last few minutes of the game. Brandon Slocum ripped the net for a 3, with 5.5 seconds left the score was 50-50. The Rams inbounded the ball and hit a buzzer beater to beat the Tigers 52-50. It was a great game enjoyed by all.
Next up for the Tigers were the Battiest Panthers. The Lady Tigers would take to the court first and this would prove to be a good game. The Lady Tigers would have the lead 9-7 after one. Shelby Clark got hot at the free throw line to keep the Ladies in black ahead at half 19-14. Tanna Thomas started the third quarter off with a short range jumper. The Lady Panthers made a run late in the third and caught back up and the end of the third they were in the lead 25-24. Shelby Geary found her groove in the 4th to score 10. The Lady Tigers never gave up and fought the whole game with great defense, and Callie Winters kept up the board work. In the end, it was not quite enough, the Lady Tigers lost 41-36, this was tough loss. Shelby Geary scored 29, Shelby Clark with 5, Tanna Thomas with a pair.
The Tigers took on the Panthers last year in a district competition in a close match up, and this was a anticipated rematch.
Battiest put the first points on the board, but Jake Dudley made a great pass to find Jake Mattingly under the basket for a easy layup to tie things up. This was a quick paced game and the lead changed hands many times in the first few minutes of the game. Jake Mattingly got a slamming block and the momentum seemed to turn with the Tigers in the lead 17-15 after one. Zach Brittingham stayed busy under the boards giving the Tigers the opportunity to score. Brandon Slocum came up with a big block, and the Tigers had the lead 28-17 at the half. Caleb Armstrong ripped the net to start the third. Terrell Morgan found his sweet spot and let the 3’s reign. Jake Dudley kept on the defensive pressure to keep the Tigers in the lead. The Panthers would make a run in the 4th qtr, but the Tigers held off the rally to beat the Panthers 59-46. Terrell Morgan and Jake Dudley tied to lead the scoring with 14, Brandon Slocum with 12; Jake Mattingly contributed 10 and Caleb Armstrong with 9. The Tigers will compete in the upcoming Tuska tournament this weekend.View more articles in:
