Sam J. Williamson was born on December 7, 1931 as the sixth child of Mary and Price Williamson in a log cabin in Maytoy. He passed from this life at home in Perland, TX., at the age of 80. Sam attended school in both Banty and Rattan. Later, he attended Paris Junior College on a basketball scholarship before completing course work at East Texas State University. He proudly served in the US Air Force during the Korean War from 1950 to 1955. In early1956, the Chadwick friends introduced him to Juanita Smith, who became his wife in March of 1956. From 1958 to 1966, he served on the police force in Paris, TX., and then in Odessa, TX. In 1967, he moved to Prairie Village, KS where he excelled as an insurance property adjuster for 23 years. Various insurance companies recruited him due to his expertise, to assist them with claims following natural disasters all over the United States. In 1990, he moved back to Texas to retire and play golf at Country Place aka “God’s Waiting Room.” Both golf and basketball were his passion. His involvement with basketball followed him around the world. He not only played and coached the game but he also refereed. For 53 years, Sam was involved in Masonry. He was a 32-Degree Scottish Rite Mason and proudly supported the Shriners’ hospitals for crippled and burned children. He is survived by: a special friend, Paula Thomas; two children, Sheila Pruett and husband Karl of Tulsa, Terry Williamson and wife Dee Dee of Crosby, TX; one grandchild, Adriene Pruett and one great-grandchild, Thomas Allen Pruett. His many friends and extended family members will miss him and cherish the times with him of laughter and of being recipients of his generous heart.
